Pilot Training College of Ireland, Commercial Pilots Licence

travb 14/08/2007, 2:42 PM

Hi

i have recently passed the pilot aptitude test at the Pilot Training College in Waterford, Ireland. The cost for the whole CPL course is 75,000Euros, which includes all modules, exams, accomodation and 150 hours flying and

  • Private Pilots Licence (ICAO PPL)
  • JAA ATPL Theoretical Knowledge Exams (JAA ATPL TK)
  • Commercial Pilots Licence (JAA CPL)
  • Multi Engine Piston Rating (JAA MEP)
  • Instrument Rating ( JAA IR Rating)

. After completing the course is there anything else i would need to obtain before being able to fly? also do you know of any banks which would allow me to have a career development loan for the majority of the cost. i am only 19 and am thinking of starting out in Jan 2009.

Thanks

Dale

I'am finding it difficult to get in contact with the PTC.  I have just a few questions.

1)  Does the cost also include meals?

2) How does the financing work?

3) Are there any entry requirements?

Hi

The cost of the course is 80,000 Euros. this includes 3 months in Florida building up your hours and includes your flights and accom.

1) no meals included but all accom is included

2) PTC have an agreement with AIB(Allied Irish Bank) in waterford for financing

3) there aer no entry requirements but you do have to take a Pilot Skills Aptitude test which will test your ability, then a decision will be made by PTC as the whether or not they think you will succeed. This is a whole day program and costs 250 Euros

Thanks

Thanks very much.

Does the ptc have a good reputation?

Is there anymore input with the financing with ptc i.e. secured or unsecured?

Hi,

The training is actually 85,000 euro to JAR FCL grade. (cost includes accomodation but not food and expenses-electricity, this is detailed in the booklets you were given!!).  I have attended the college recently to do the aptitude test, from what i understand you will gain the qualifications required to progres to do your MCC (multi crew cooperation, necessary to fly in airlines) which will cost  an additional approx. 4000 euro.  This will then get you to a 'type quaification' (training for a specific aircraft).  Agin this has to be paid for, some airlines will sponsor this and others not and the cost could be anything up to 30,000 euro.  This final step again seems like a lot of money but you will be a very attractive candidate at this stage by the airline and can feel confident about getting your first airline job!

You can do a similar course in Sweden (vasteras) which includes the MCC course for a slight reduction in cost (and potentially meet a lot of hot Swedish girls:).

Does finishing a course with PTC guarantee that you will get a job with an airline? To get in I would have to borrow a hell load of money. If I wont get a job I'm screwd big time owing up to 85 grand wich is not something I need beeing 25 :). On the web site it sais that 98% of graduates get a job in the next two months. Is that true or bullshit to get people in???

Hi,

If you are thinking that this is what you want to do Maths and Physics are important. Maths for the ground school equasion stuff and mental arithmetic for 'in flight' calculations. Physics is again important for the ground school understanding - especially principles of flight.

If you are concerned about your eyesight, and good eyesight is required (although you can wear glasses or contact lenses), you can download an eye test form from the CAA web site and take it to you opticians for a thorough eye exam. At least that way you can find out without the expense of a full medical at the CAA.

Hi Jevgenij,

The uptake for newly qualified pilots is, unfortunately, seasonal. If you intend to part with your hard earned cash, you need to be looking at completing the course around the August time. Most airlines tend to recruit around the back end of the year so that the type rating and line training can be completed in time for the summer season.

It is unlikely that any Flight Training Organisation (FTO) will guarantee a job, however, I'd suggest looking at an FTO who has many links with airlines as it will improve your chances considerably. Some schools are cheaper than others, but look for the support you will get once you have completed the course. It is a fact the the FTO's with more connections post course tend to be a little more expensive. Also some FTO's will include graduates who are employed in any job, not just those flying big shiny jets! Also consider that some FTO's have sponsored students, who are included in the figures.

The purpose of this is to make you aware of the situation and not put you off in anyway.

Hi,

If you are investigating schools outside of the UK you should also consider Algonquin Flight Centre in Canada. The offer a similar all inclusive package to Pilot Training College Ireland but only offer FAA and Canadian License but the cost is much cheaper, 60 - 70k Euro I think. This option suits me as I am happy to stay in Canada for 3-4 years and hope to build more flight time up there before returning. A convertion to JAA will cost about 12k Euro when I'm ready

Seeing as you can't spell, I wouldn't bother trying to pursue a career in aviation.

unless you want to be ripped off do not go near this company! The figures they boast about placement are a scam...they use sponsored airline cadets who have jobs to boost the figures...plenty more by pm
