flying in France

Brian Hill 10/10/2006, 3:53 PM

Can anyone help a flying Francophile? I hold a PPL-A and have a place in France and therefore am a frequent visitor. Does anyone have the answers to any of the following.

Can I fly a french aircraft with my license?

Can I have a G reg aircraft and keep it in France?

Can I have a PFA reg aircraft and keep it in France?

Any other suggestions.

If there is another flyer in he same situation not too far from halfway between Rennes and Nantes perhaps they would consider a joint venture.

Hi Brian,

I can help with the answers to your questions.

With regards question one, Yes, you can fly a French registered A/C on a UK PPL though  I changed my licence to a JAR-FCL licence(talk to CAA) the only difference would be that you would have a class 2 medical and pay £145.00 for the change to the JAR licence.

I have my medical renewal at Marmande, just up the road and have my check ride with a CFI at Marmande Aerodrome and I just send copies to the CAA for there records.

I have lived just South of Duras(47) for 5 years now and have kept my G reg Cub on my own strip. I have UK insurance and as she is on the PFA reg, I have my inspector fly down each year for the permit renewal.

I will gladly answer any other questions you have,

Best regards Darren.
