Hi all,

I am wondering wether to buy either flight simulator 2002 professional for £25.99 or flight sim 2004 for £41.99.

Depends on the power of your PC. Take a look at the FlightSims review of FS 2004 on this site. The best features are the new weather effects - problem is, you need a beefy processor to get the most out of the sim. The review seems to suggest that even a 1.67 Ghz processor won't cope (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong ). I'm therefore unlikely to buy this version (wish I could!) until I can afford a faster PC (bought mine 12 months ago).

A 1.67 processor will cope if you opt to reduce graphic settings to around 40%. Generally it's the clouds that slows things up and with all graphics set to maximum the sim will run more like a slide show than a flight model. If you can do without all the fancy graphics and just want to fly IFR, for example, then you could probably get away with a 1.2 gz processor, with a 64mb graphic card, and still get a good flight profile. The graphic, or video card, is a major factor effecting frame rates, so if you had a 1.67 gz processor with a 128mb video card, then you could get away with about 80% graphics settings in fs2004.

If you just want to fly IFR, I would go for X-plane. A much better flight profile, but without all the eye candy to slow things down. There is a story about this in the review section of this site,

happy flying.......

I use flight sims frequently and noticed that the transition from FS02 to FS04 was not easy.

I tend to agree with the others Im afraid. If you have a high spec machine, you will see the benefit of FS04. However, it really is not that different from FS02... apart from the clouds....ooohh the clouds.
