GPS Research - Your Chance To Make A Difference!

Ladies and Gents,

Some of you may be aware of a Research Project set up to look into the use of GPS-based Nav Systems in General Aviation. Full details, including a Survey Form, are available for you at the GPS Survey Website:-

http://members.aol.com/UKGPSResearch/

Please do take time to take part in this very valuable exercise and please encourage all those Pilots you know to take part as well. Detailed information is given in the Website and you are most welcome to contact me direct - again details on the Site - should you have any questions!

Much of this data has never been captured before and the results you feed back with be used anonymously in the UK, USA and Australia to help researchers worldwide to gain a better understanding of the way us Pilots use GPS-based Nav Systems. Your personal details will not be divulged to anyone, including other researchers or any official organisations. All data will be completely anonymous!

I really look forward to hearing your views on the GPS systems you use, and how you use it! Do take time to complete the Form as fully and as honestly as possible. I will keep you posted on progress over the coming weeks.

Regards,

Chris Morshead
UK GPS Research Project Manager

Just thought I'd update you on where we are with this. I have started to receive a steady flow of replies back and the feedback to date has been most useful. The usage patterns of GPS are most interesting and this illustrates the average levels of reliance being placed on GPS during the various flight regimes I have been looking at. In addition, the feedback on the various strengths and weaknesses of the various GPS systems is starting to become clearer. Clearly, the more data, the more accurate a picture we can build up of how the various systems are used, how they compare, and where the strengths and weaknesses are.

The form can be found via:-

http://members.aol.com/ukgpsresearch1/form.doc

where you can download the form, complete it and then e-mail it back to the address given at the bottom of the form. Please do take time out to complete and return the survey. In addition, please spread the news to all those you know who may be able to contribute to this work. It is only through your participation that we can gain a clearer understanding of some of the issues surrounding this technology.

The complete Project website is available via:-

http://members.aol.com/ukgpsresearch/index.htm

and I will shortly be able to report back on some of the data already collected. That will appear on the Website shortly. Please do join all those who have already contributed, and add your voice and experience, no matter what that is, to the growing debate. As ever, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions and I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Many thanks, Chris

Ladies and Gents,

Results for the UK GPS Survey continue to flow in and are undergoing preliminary assessment on a daily basis. Very much encouraged by the initial response to date, I must extend my thanks to all of you who have made such a valuable contribution to date. The latest interim results may be found at:-

http://members.aol.com/UKGPSResearch/

Other data obtained from each Survey completed will take much longer to analyse but it is the intention to provide as much feedback as possible as this work progresses. While much data has been received to date, please do take time to take part in this very valuable exercise and please encourage all those Pilots you know to take part as well. The initial response to the Survey Form has been most promising and the Form has proved easy to use. Why not join in if you have not already as it is vital as much information is gathered as possible.

I really look forward to hearing your views on the GPS systems you use, and how you use it! Do take time to complete the Form as fully and as honestly as possible and please encourage others to assist in this valuable work. As ever, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the project e-mail address UKGPSResearch@aol.com

Regards,

Chris Morshead

Dear All,

Following the hugely successful response to date to the UK GPS Research Survey, I have belatedly managed to find time to update the website at

http://members.aol.com/ukgpsresearch/index.htm

Please do take time out to visit the Site and, as always, there is still time for you and your fellow Aviators to contribute to this work should you not already have done so.

As ever, your comments/suggestions are always welcome and so do feel free to contact me here at UKGPSResearch@aol.com!

Regards, Chris
