Is there a way of reducing the price of thePPL?

Flyman 22/07/2003, 7:35 PM
Dear All,

I am currently 14 and wish to be a pilot when I am older.

I am joining the air cadets in the hope of getting some flying lessons! Also to have fun!
Is there a way of getting a PPL at a reduced price; without paying so much money.
Can anyone help me?

Regards,
Aaron

Here's one for you. Start without an engine! By that I mean gliding, excellent way of learning to be a pilot and also good for training for Forced Landing Without Power! At the stage we are talkiNg about, airmanship is airmanship regardless of what you learn to fly.

Good Luck Aaron!

Thanks Andrew I think I will try that, but do you know any places that do gliding that offer high quality gliding in Berkshire?

I agre with what Andrew said and would add that not having the option of a go around if the approach is misjudged concentrates the mind and makes for a more acurate pilot when you go powered. Go for it and remember, enjoy it after all it costs enough.

Mike

i i'm also an air cadet learning to fly and have exactly the same problem as you(not enough money). the chance of you getting a flying scolership is incredably small(they pick about 5 cadets every year) you'll probably get a glider scolership though as they are quite common.

cheers james
