I have recently commenced PPL training an are currently in Circuits. My original instrucor had an App on his mobile phone that was able to track my circuit flight path and record for later play back on PC (GPS I assume). Unfortunately he left the flying school and I have a new instructor. Would anyone have knowledge of this software or App. It was extremely useful as a debrief on circuit patterns flown, when seeing a recorded line tracer of the path taken. Any comments would be appriciated. Cheers

Re: Circuit Training Aid
Most GPS based nav units will give you a trace of your flight path, I have PocketFMS on my mobile (HTC_HD2) which shows exactly that. However for what it's worth I would doubt the usefulness of this in circuit training, sure it would be able to tell you that you were inaccurate, most of us are anyway ;-), but surely you should be relying on local ground features, if your instructor knows the local area he/she should be able to tell you about. You know what I mean, turn downwind overhead the bend in the river, turn base when the tower block appears in the bottom corner of the right window etc., or maybe just learning to recognise that downwind is parallel to the runway about 1 mile out, (you will need to judge distances sooner or later anyway) and that base turn is when the threshold is 45 degrees off the tail. Just my thoughts as I say for what they're worth, but try not to complicate matters too much at this time, likely you'll spend a good deal of time in the circuit and it will all come to you eventually believe me. Just enjoy it!
