Re: Any1 know where to get a UK PPL in US(East coast)?
John,
Just to thow another US school into the frame...Naples Air Centre in Naples Florida. I went there in 2001 to complete my PPL after hearing several bad reports about Ormond Beach. The school is run by an English woman (married to an American) and most of the instructors were European...yes they were all building hours (but that is what most instructors are doing either here or in the US). I could not fault them...had a great time, with a great instructor (a guy from Belgium) and the rest of the staff were excellent. My flight examiner was a CAA examiner so I could not be critised here. Most people finished their PPL within 3 to 4 weeks. Coming back to the UK I have not found it difficult to adapt to the local conditions...I would recommend anyone to try Naples Air Centre.

Hey, I have booked my PPL completion in OBA and am leaving in 3 weeks time. Some of the posts here have strong negative undertones, can anybody give more detail on the bad feeling either on the forum or as an e-mail - williamflood@eircom.net
I just want to get the ticket. I have over 80 hours and am not put off by the Factory/Numbers concept or by the "It wont be the same as flying at home" thing. If a system of learning works and tests get passed, then I dont mind being another PPL drone. I have a good bit of experience flying in Ireland - so a rain clould wont frighten me..
I am going out to Florida to get the job done, and wont return without it. If anyone has some info on OBA other than the "Factory" and "It wont be the Same..." comments - then please let me know, as I'm committed to it now.
Re: Any1 know where to get a UK PPL in US(East coast)?
William,
I got my PPL there last September. Although many people had bad experiences there, I enjoyed myself. Have you paid already? If not, take travellers cheques and pay your first morning. That way you can get a feel for the place before you hand over your dosh. Also, negotiate with them for the minimum hours you'll get. Guys on my course paid the full price for the PPL but weren't necessarily given the 45 hours if they already had some logged. Re the training etc, it's perhaps not the best, but getting your PPL is a license to learn anyway. You won't be a 'good' pilot with 80-100 hours. Lastly, don't piss off Bill or you'll be starting at 6:30 every morning! Good luck & enjoy.

I thought about doing the same as you a couple of years ago. I decided to visit them while on holiday. There were a few brits sitting about bored either waiting for aircraft of instructors. The were not too keen on me asking questions! - I'd look elsewhere if I were you.
