Standards and Behaviour of OAA's US Instructors

GotNakedInaWarrior 28/01/2010, 8:21 PM
Those who have passed through OAA, whether integrated or modular will have spent time in the US training.
We all will know of the lottery of instructors assigned to us and will know of, or experienced some of the sub-standard or sometimes horrendous behaviour and mentality of some instructors toward students.
Some clearly fail to recognise people have paid almost seventy thousnad for the training and expect to get what they have paid for without abuse or low standards of teaching.
If you have any contributions then please make them known, try to avoid giving names, this is something OAA should be made to recognise and address.

I am very wary about doing this still being a current OAA student, so have not used my regular pilotweb id to make sure I remain anonymous. I have though decided to add to this because it is something I agree with and feel strongly about.
I have been extremely lucky and experienced a good relationship with all my instructors in the states and their teaching was pretty good. Unfortunately the same can not be said for everyone and I've know people have some horrendous experiences.
Not naming names but a good friend of mine had the 'penguin' and had a hellish time with him. From what we understand there has been a recent wave of students, both EPST and UK, refusing to fly with him.
OAA has done the bare minimum of providing an instructor change, but not really anything further. A small number of instructors most definately behave and teach appallingly, ruining what could be an excellent set up.
It is criminal that this is allowed to happen in an institution that charges the high fees they do for integrated training. Such individuals should have no place in a training environment and OAA should do something about it now. Too many times complaints are just ignored leaving instructors to get away with murder.

Found an interesting forum entry on PPRUNE by Integrated&Irritated on page 2 of the discussion titled 'OAT?', I've attached the link:

Pretty much echoes the subject of this forum.

Thought a lot about whether or not its wise doing this, I don't take part in forums they don't tend to be any more than a well of highly charged negative inflated opinions, pprune being just that.
I have heard this subject talked about before and that this particular discussion was on here. Many people agree the hit and miss nature of being allocated a good instructor is largely a joke in view of the cost.
When I say good I mean teaches to a high standard, its not asking much, and behaves in a professional manner.
Sadly as many know this is not always the case on both counts. Its not good enough!!!
DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT OAA!!!!!
I am very with familiar with the penguin from my own personal experience, but there was another with a reputation of being total poison to students during my time in Goodyear. One British ex-Delta Airlines instructor has got to be one of the most ego inflated and unpleasant instructors out there. He thinks he is a better instructor than he is when in reality he is incapable of teaching or communicating to any effective level. Fatal! For an F1 instructor, who is responsible for teaching you the basic fundamental skills of flying, this is in no way good enough. He is clearly frustrated and bitter about being let go by the airlines and having to return to OAA. This is more than apparent by the way he goes on and its the last thing you need when learning to fly.
I only signed up to make this point, and if I never make another posting on here again who cares, this is a point I wanted to make. I would strongly encourage others to do so, poor standards should not be allowed and OAA should act now!
