Coventry Airport Closure

To be honest this is what would have happened to my aerodrome (Halfpenny Green - EGBO), if they had said yes to the investors in making it a regional airport. It used to be home to Richard Bransons "Hot-Air Balloon", and even had a purpose built hanger for it at one point. Thank goodness they didn't and now its been developed as a General Aviation modern airfield.

Coventry Airport is great for its location if you liaise with one of the many businesses locally or you require instant delivery of products by Air, but thats it.

I'm not quite sure what it means by Airport closure. Hopefully it returns to being an airfield as I always enjoy watching the charter business jets coming in and out when I work nearby. Why quit it being a business airport, just because the money-grabbing rich kids couldn't get the balance right for public demand?

OMG what does this mean chris have all flight schools from coventry closed as well or are they operating as normal i was looking into doing my ppl licence nxt year tere as it's not to far from home.

I really hope it will just return to a GA airport, but the big money-grabbers have probably drained a lot of cash from the airport so I guess they are in debt possibly?

Probably lots of paperwork involved so not really sure where Coventry stands at the moment. I have my fingers and toes crossed that it remains open, I know a few people who have aircraft based there.

Im pretty gutted about the whole thing, if it closes it brings down the flying schools and the few aviation businesses based there- and every business is an opportunity for a budding pilot looking for their first job :o(

so with regards to flight schools i take it they are all closed as well?

I would assume so from that as they need a licenced airfield to operate..

gud job i didn;t take any block bookings out with any schools at cov then so i take it ill be at wellsbourne any 1 flown from there recommend a good flight school

I learnt at Wellesbourne and flew with Wellesbourne Aviation- now merged with "OnTrack".

If the instructors are largely the same then I would highly recommend them

This was not good news as the west Midlands company falled under winding petition.I I hope the Coventry Airfield opens up quickly as it is hard to go to Wellesbourne and Leicester for our daily business travel.
