Hey, I am 14 year old guy who wants to become a commercial pilot. I have researched a lot of things online, however I'd like to know more and I see that only help can come from forums as far as I'm concerned. I live in United Kingdom, but in future I want to go to study in USA for my pilot course. After requesting some information from them nothing came and it's useless for me to wait for answer now, over 5 weeks I've been waiting. How old do I need to be so I can apply for studies? I'm 15 in one month. Additionally, how many GCSEs do I need? I am predicted to get 10 GCSEs not including Russian which I have A* in. Furthermore if I want to go to study in USA, do I have to transform the grades to American grades? So here's what I'd love to know;
How old do I need to be to apply.
How much would it cost?
How do I apply?
How many GCSEs do I need in total?
Does it matter if I'm Latvian?
A huge thanks, also if someone's nice enough can you tell me step-by-step what to do?
1. To get on an airline pilot training course you usually have to be 17+ with ideally 2 A-levels but this isnt a written rule
2. It costs about £70'000 to get your licenses you need to be able to apply to an airline start to finish
3. Apply by waiting until your done with education (18 years old is sensible), then look at the well known schools such as Oxford, CTC Wings & FTE
4. On average most training courses let you on with about 5 GCSE's, and any knowledge you can get extra in maths and physics is a bonus
5. It doesnt matter if your Latvian as long as you have a passport for the UK and you speak fluent english. Speaking english is an absolute must as all the RT is english and all the exams are in english.
Best of luck, wait until your out of education first. Maybe think about training for you UK PPL come the age of 16-17. This will cost about £7000 but gets you off to a good start. I suggest you look up www.ctcwings.com and GAPAN. Do your research must most importantly get through school and possibly college/sixth form first.
I would also suggest looking at what the air cadets can offer you or volunteering to help out at your local airfield. Collecting glasses or cleaning aircraft might seem dull and pointless but you I'm sure you will learn a few things from the other members and every once in a while they might take you flying with them. Good luck
You don't need GCSE's, just money. I've been talking to some commercial pilot's and they said the best way to go is to train at the United States because it is cheaper, then I asked them about GCSE's. They said there not vital at all. You just need to be a nice person and have a good backround and abit of cash.
