Petition to award official student status to British trainee professional pilots.
I recently came across a petition via a link on the CTC wings page, while no longer particularly applicable to me having qualified a couple of years ago (unless I am able to stake a claim based on previous expenditure) Its something I do feel very strongly about and which I communicated to my MP a couple of years ago (I have the benefit of Gerald Howarth as my MP, a fellow aviator).
We're all aware of the immense cost of training to fly professionally, VAT alone on the cost of my integrated course amounted to nigh on £10k. With currently no financial support available from the government, funding is one of the biggest problems facing those aspiring to learn to fly, one that could be negated by offering loans on a student loan basis.

Anthony
I'm definatly in support of this. I found it very difficult to get money for my flying career, in fact I worked my ass off just for my PPL and the only time I got a chance to achieve my dream the economy was in the crapper, my parents really stuck their necks on the line and remortgaged the house for me. I remember sitting in front of a man at HSBC and had him telling me theres no such thing as a student loan for a pilot. I too spoke to an MP, my local one who was no help whatsoever. People go into university choosing random degress not even knowing what they want to do at the end of it, and yet you get people like myself, knowing exactly where they want to go in life but for some reason cannot get the financial backing to do so. Why is it the government can splash out £30'000 plus onto a student taking a degree and not for a student wanting to become a commercial pilot- and one with the correct aptitude at that?
Pass this link around, I know I certainly will because I know what it was like trying to get the funding and I know many people still trying to achieve their goals now but are unable to do so.

Everything the Government does, misses the point.
Like a dodgy kitchen worktop, you place your mug of tea on it and it goes flying out into the garden. Wasn't what I was expecting seeing as the initial requirement was as clear as day.
Must remember to thank them for my Commercial Bus Drivers License! lol.

I doubt it. There will be a ready supply of pilots from overseas. The same thing happened with shipping; most British flag ships are crewed by foreigners these days.
