Pilot magazine

Free Licence holder

Simon 26/04/2009, 9:42 PM

Delivered with a recent edition of Pilot magazine there was a leaflet offering a free licence holder to any subscriber updating their online details.

Has anyone updated their details and received their licence holder?

Nor me!!

I was disappointed that I didn't receive a reply to the email I sent to the pilot offices either.

I updated, received nothing.

Details entered February, email sent to ask where cover is in April, response received saying it had been dispatched, email sent today chasing it again.

Very poor show from Archant, with obvious lies and deception. Either that or just incompetence towards the loyalty of their subscribers.

Well I did.  That is, I submitted the requested information and waited.....

...and chased it all up some time later.

And yes, I did then receive a licence holder, which is rather good.  Being somewhat cynical now, I think someone's marketing idea was very poorly thought through and appallingly executed.

Thread drift:  I have to mark all things relating to subscriptions as less than efficient.  I've had a subscription since about 1995 and over the years, the service has deteriorated.  I've recently received exhortations to renew now or my supply of Pilots will fade away.  Yes, it will, in 6 months time.  I find this premature panic more than a little annoying.  The time to remind me is the month before.  It doesn't take six months to set up delivery.  Today's technology ought to allow things to happen rather more quickly than in days of yore, but I find this isn't so.  This month (November issue) the offer on the back of the address 'label' is rather good - 47% saving - but it seems to apply only to a calendar year.  So if they can set up a new subscription starting with the February (out January) issue from anything ordered before 4th December (to allow time for the gift card), why do they need so many more months just to continue mine?

Rant off.

See my post about being ripped off. It seems symptomatic for Archant that these things don't materialise. And I can't even get them to refund me. The laugh is that they told me several times that my free Airfield Guide had been despatched by Royal Mail. Even Royal Mail don't take several weeks to deliver an item! Rant over - for now!

I've alerted our subscriptions manager to this thread - thanks for the feedback, everyone. We need it!

Thanks for the reply Nick. Can we look forward to an extra present in our sack this Xmas?

It depends. Have you been good? Do you have an EASA-approved chimney?

Wow, I stand back in amazement at the speed of your response. 18 months from complaint to action !!! ???

Nick, your involvement in this thread at least shows some concern for your subscribers, so thanks for taking the time. But as Bald has already voiced, in terms of efficient customer service, overall the whole affair has been pretty awful, and I for one had written it off as a bad experience that leaves Pilot magazine topping the list of cutbacks to be made to keep assist in regaining flying cash.
