Im new to the site. Im 15 years old and have been keen Flight Simer for around a year and a half. At christmas my Parents bought me a 30 min trial lesson in a PA28 at my local flying club, I Really enjoyed it and was desperate to do my PPL. For my birthday in June my parents bought me a 1 hour lesson which i did just last friday. I am now deadly serious in obtaining my PPL and then do my commercial licence. We have spoke to the Flying Club and its £7425 Including £500 worth of Test fees and books etc. I Have a few questions i need answering to clear a few things up and make it easyier to deside.
How can i go about becoming a commercial pilot what differnt paths are there to take? Is it Better to go to America and do it all there? After i have done my PPL and Commercial how many hours will i need before an Airline company will even think about employing me? What Qualifications do i need? (2 A-Levels?, Does having a Degree Help?)
That is all i can think off now but i know i will have more :P
I am 16 nearly 17 and am around 30 hours into my PPL. Firstly £7425 is a good price for however you want to make sure that this isn’t if you pay in one big go because otherwise if the school goes bust then you are left high and dry( it has been know to happen).
There are mainly 2 different routes to getting a commercial license.
The first is the modular route which means that you pay for the bit you do. So you can do your PPL at one place and then your ground exams at another and then do sim work with another training facility.
The second is called Integrated where you fork out the money to do everything from one school or training organisation: Basically from no experience to Frozen ATPL all in one go.
(I may be incorrect with some of the facts above and so other people may want to add or take too or correct parts of that explanation.)
You will be able to get your license cheaper in other country such as USA; however there is a down side. Many people after coming back from learning abroad find it hard to fly in the U.K because of the busy airspace and radio differences. Therefore you can end up coming back and spending lots of money on differences training to get “up to scratch” with flying in the U.K.
In terms of hours for airlines to employ im not sure. But I think you need near 1000, as my instructor has over 800 and says he needs more. However I am not confident that I have this right and so would check with a more reliable source.
There is no specification on academic qualifications. However I would advise maybe going and getting some A-levels just so you have something to fall back on or something to get a job with until you can afford a CPL.
Hope these answers are ok. Like I said im not 100% sure about some of them but at least it gives you an idea until someone comes and corrects me :p.
Thanks alot Chris has helped some what. Just to say the £7425 is payed by 3 installments which gives me all the Equipment and 15 hours flying. Ive also read that most people dont pass in the 45 hours and require more hours is this the case with the majority or minority?
Welcome to the world of aviation.
The average for a PPL(A) I believe is about 56 hours. Some do it in 45 but not many. My NPPL(SSEA) took me 66 hours. The PPL(A) and NPPL(SSEA) take about the same time to complete, although it is possible to complete an NPPL(SSEA) in a shorter time (but unlikely). The training is basically the same, and the written exams are the same.
Training:-
PPL(A) 45 hours minimum.
NPPL(SSEA) 32 hours minimum + Navigation Skills Test, + General Skills Test (possibly 3 hours).
P.S Do not hand over large sums of money in block bookings. Many flying clubs/schools go broke only too often and take your money with them.
Thanks for your responses. Saying that I complete my PPL and get my licence when im 17-18, Can I then begin the next part of beginning Commercial Training or do I need more hours or any other stuff? Im calling a commercial school tomurrow to find out more etc. Do you know how much the Frozen ATPL costs and what is the average price?
I am really interested in aerobatics and I would like to show you a thing or too in my Cessna 172. It is currently in my garage in repairs from my last run.
If it is possible, could I talk to the person in control about next years Bournemouth Air Show (2010)
I think people will find my act really interesting and fun to watch.
I am also interested in flying a goat. I grab it by the horns and tug away. This then makes its bum move to a point it takes off. Chocks away!
your a retard. Go bounce up and down on the flight yoke to get yourself a very first orgasm your pilot virgin. Do you fly for virgin by the way? hahahaha. Yoour mum in bed
