Possibility of taking a PPL in any country????

Pilotoneday 06/07/2009, 11:20 AM
Hi all,

Is it possible to do your PPL in any country around the world? I'm planning on doing mine and am flexible as to where I could complete the course. Basically I'd like to find out if it is then possible to start a Commercial licence with a Thai or South African PPLlicence (for example)?

Or does anyone have a list of the various PPL training schools around the world?

Much appreciated

If you want to get a good start in pursuit of an airline career gain a JAA PPL - thats if you want to get a job in Europe especially.  As for schools around the world, make sure  they have JAA examiners and you will be fine.  Can you be specific in a location of the world you want to go?

I haven't really decided on a location yet. I would be quite happy to relocate anywhere really. Is there anywhere I can get a list of JAA flight schools outside of Europe?

There are many schools advertising in the back of pilot and no doubt google will come back with more answers then you can possibly fathom. As with everything its worthwhile checking on the organisation before you commit, especially in this economic climate stories of schools disappearing are not that uncommon, even worse if you've parted with a load of cash first. Obviously your ideally looking for a licence you can use in the UK, so look for schools offering this, then its a case of deciding on price and location. You also have to decided that there is enough of a saving to offset the costs you'll incur as far as flights and accomodation are concerned and familiarisation (aircraft and airspace) upon your return to the UK. So look at the schools and look at the prices and find out what your best options are

Thanks,

Acutally I would be more interested in doing my PPL abroad to save on the accomodation expense here in the UK. Some people have told me that South Africa is a fantastic place to learn. Does anyone have any recommendations for schools outside the UK?

Cheers.

SAA - Loutzavia at Wonderboom airport (Pretoria) - very professional - great ethics - check them out on the web.
btw - check out Lanseria Flight Centre - they have an ILS there - for IFR training.
otherwise Canada- there are probably many pilots that can help you with contacts there... happy landings

If price is the reason of learning abroad of EU, then there you also can find a cheap flight schools. I'm from Riga, Latvia, here you can get the PPL at 6000Eur and ~19.000Eur to ATPL. Contact www.avioservice.eu , if it seems good for you.
Otherwise , yes - go to South Africa, excellent flight conditions and the beauty nature far better than in Latvia.

P.S. I'd choose SA, but I needed to work and avioservice allows the main part of theory to pass in self-study way.
