I am new to the forum and have just had my first 2 lessons towards my PPL. (After many years of promising to start but never quite being able to afford it!)
I have been told that it would be a good idea to get my own headset.
I am on a bit of a tight budget but think I would be better spending a little bit more to get a decent set.
I have narrowed it down to either a Sennheiser HME95 or a flightcom 5DX (Both passive headets).
Does anyone have views on the above, or indeed, any recommendations for other sets?
Highly recommend spending a bit and going for the famous David Clarke headsets, the H10-13.4 retails around £200 but will last you as long as you fly. VERY comfortable and of high quality, you've probably seen many PPL holders and CPL holders alike wearing them. Highly recommended because I know how painfull some headsets can be after a few hours of flying- especially without the gel ear pieces, not to mention the club headsets that are full of other peoples bacteria!
Thanks for prompt reply and the useful information. Over the years I have spent hours gathering information on things like training, aircraft etc, but never thought to 'research' items such as headsets.
The H10-13.4 is a bit more than I was looking to spend, but recommendations are very important and I think I will take yours and stretch my budget a bit.
What are peoples thoughts on the ASA HS1 headset? Anyone use/used them? If so have you used them along side varying makes/models and were they fully compatible? I read they come with a lifetime garantee on workmanship and parts, so they can't be too bad for £100..
All the 10.13 seem to be going for arounf the £150-£160 mark on ebay at the minute, with the 10.40s even selling for £82! I've bid on a few 10.30s but not won one yet, I will keep at it though I might get a bargain aswell one day. :)
To name a few; WW2 Battle of Britain B-Type Flying Helmet - £200 (Worth £400+), Gibson '57 Les Paul Goldtop - £1,500 (Worth £2,000+). Dell Rack Servers for around £150-£200 when they are worth £500+.
I just seem to be at the right place at the right time. My fiancee collects First Edition/Print - Charles Dickens/George Elliot/Thomas Hardy Novels and i've managed to get them at really good prices.
