Pilot Required for Leisure Flight

Calling all pilots!

I hope you don't mind me contacting you all through this forum, but it seems like a good place to start.

It is my 30th birthday on 14th February and we're looking to do something rather special. Myself, my wife and our two friends will be travelling to Bristol.

My hope is to make the trip a memorable one. We live in Hemel Hempstead, Herts. which is very convenient for Elstree Aerodrome. I have looked in to private charters and to be honest; the prices are a bit too expensive for us. We would only be looking for a one way trip, but would be stung with a return cost as the craft would need to return to Elstree.

Having surfed the net all day, I see there are a great many aero clubs out there who can offer aircraft hire at very reasonable rates. My question is..could I hire a plane on behalf of the pilot and have him/her fly us to Bristol? We would of course meet all costs including landing fees etc. plus something for the pilot.

I guess the ideal candidate would be someone from either Bristol or Elstree, or someone who is looking to gain hours with a few passengers in tow. I apologise if I am being naive about the feasibility of this, but if there's anyone who can help make this a reality or even shed some light, please please get in contact. It would be wonderful if I could make this happen.

my email address is bjornpjohnson@gmail.com (or reply to this thread).

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I wil keep my fingers crossed!

What your after strictly speaking is a commercial pilot- someone with a CPL and not just a PPL (Private license).  The reason being is because it is illegal to fly for any form of  reward if you are a private pilot as is it illegal to not pay an exact equal cut of the total cost of the flight.    Of course Im just following rules here but I am just highlighting technically speaking you need to aim this post at someone with a CPL who then may ask for a financial reward.  In the end unless some kind sole will do it, it may be best to speak to an aero club and hire the plane for there and back, as this may be just as cheap as advertising for a separate pilot to fly a separate plane for a separate fee on top of the aircraft hire.

However, Im sure there is someone who will read this that may help you out- as I said perhaps even a PPL qualified pilot just looking for hours building as technically for you this would mean a cheap flight as the pilot is supposed to pay an even share ;o)

Good luck

Thank you Morbz.

I guess that is exactly what I'm looking for..a kind soul. Someone with a PPL and hours to build would be preferable as it would keep the cost down. If you are reading this and think you might be such a person, please please get in touch. You would help make this birthday a very special one!

Having to pay an equal share is news to me and thanks to Morbz for highlighting that point. As he's said..it's a technical rule and I'm sure we could sort something out.

So once again..calling all pilots! Please please get in touch.

Thanks, Bjorn

Bjorn,

As much as I would love the opportunity to fly from Elstree to Bristol your always likely to be stung by the fact that the aircraft will have to return back to either location. From a commercial point of view, and I do have a CPL, unless you were willing to cover the roundtrip costs then its not economical for me to operate for you.

As far as you and three others being flown is concerned you'd almost certainly need a 6 seater aircraft, and while there are singles available you'd almost certainly need a twin, and as such again a qualified pilot to fly this. Further to this wherever you rent the aircraft from would most probably want to fly a check out with the pilot.

Its unlikely in this case that you'd receive much change from about £500.

If you are still interested then I do have a couple of friends who I could pass your details onto who I'm sure would be happy to help.
