To join google for army careers, then go to TA. They are (i think) only in th Salisbury Pain area. They only accept ex-AAC pilots, but anyone can join as a ground crewman, and doorgunner on promotion
I understand the AAC now has two TA regiments 6 and 7. 6 Regiment was formed as part of a TA build up/restructure and provides groundcrew for Apache operations. They are based in Bury St Edmonds, plus other detachments. 7 Regiment are based at Netheravon on Salisbury plain and have been around longer. Their pilots are all TA, but they are only ex-AAC or ex-RN/RAF/RM who did exchange tours with the AAC (i.e. no AAC flying experience = no joy!). They used to fly the Scout and now fly the Gazelle, which will in turn be replaced by the leased helicopter selected under Project Stockwell. In recent years 7 Regiment have also been recuiting TA soldiers as groundcrew (Airtroopers), just as with 6 Regiment.
What I'm unsure of and would really like to have confirmed is whether TA groundcrew can also apply and train as rear crew (door gunner/observer/winch operator) upon promotion, just like their regular counterparts? One of the posts above eludes to this, but I'd like to know more. Can anyone help...?
