I am interested in making a film about how rude some of the moderators are on Pprune and how snooty a lot of the users on Pprune are.
I understand the Rude moderator is one Bob Lloyd. is this correct? Does anyone know where the King Prune actually lives? or wish to have any valid input?
PPRuNE, like many other public forums, is based on the absolute assurance of contributors anonymity. If you don't agree with those forum rules, you don't have to participate. Simple really.
Graham, when someone you don't know starts a campaign to establish exactly where you live, will you be entirely relaxed?

Wow, your a bit of a loser arn't you!
PPRUNE at times is pessimistic, and at times people ramble on about negative points and slate those who say stupid things, but thats tough, its a forum where freedom of speech is allowed so get over it

I'll disagree and say prune does not have freedom of speech. Any differing view is quickly quelled, especially if critical of some airline pilot atittudes. Posts are deleted if an opposing view is stated.
As a regular poster on Prune who regularly takes on the airline / IFR types I can say I have never had a post deleted. Lots of knowledgeable people post on it, so if you are going to throw rocks you have to be sure you know your stuff. I find it very useful.

I find the pprune members ok but some of the moderators are really bad. I have seen blatant infringements from pprune mods on freedom of speech, unexplained thread deletions, expressing of personal opinions and over policing without explanation.
It's the only forum I've come across, so far, that behaves this way. Maybe it's a case of, 'We're so big we can do what we like'. But like I say the posters seem ok.
I found this on community spark which explains how to moderate and I think the pprune mods should go on a course with them
How to avoid conflict when moderating
As I have said before, it is essential that your online community has a set of rules or guidelines for your members to follow.
Before you have to take action against a member, you should always contact them and try to get them to remove or edit the post themselves by referring them to the rule you feel they have broken.
In this way, you are making your site user feel far more valued on a personal level - this is far preferable to the member simply returning one day to find their post(s) or account deleted.
The key to effective forum moderation
In my opinion, the key to effective forum moderation is the ‘laissez-faire‘ approach. You should only edit the accounts or posts of your members as a last resort.
If you are unhappy with any content they have created, speak directly and confidentially to that person.
This way, you will not end up alienating your community - they will respect you far more as a moderator and will feel far more valued as a member of your community.
Pprune moderators could learn a lot from their site.
! Get a grip people, if you have problems with PPRUNE write to them or the bloody media, anyone would think you guys are losing sleep over it- making videos about it etc, what a joke.

It's a valid discussion what's wrong with that.
I don't think the media would be interested in a story about bad moderation, hardly earthbreaking news is it?
I also don't think anyone is losing sleep over it so why are you so bothered?

A valid discussion? On what, making movies based on moderators of an online forum- sounds like a gripping vid to me. And you telling us all how to be good moderators?
I don't honestly see how this is a good discussion, I personally think some people need to get out more if all they can do is moan about PPRUNE and dedicate part of their life on making a video about their moderation. You've even said it yourself- "hardly earth breaking".
-Well thats me done wasting my time on this thread, happy bantering!
